Help with searching

There are several ways you can find organisations information on the Family Services Directory.

Quick and easy - Simple searches

On most pages you will find a search box in the top right hand corner - simply type one or more keywords into this box and click Search - this will bring up a list of services relevant to you.

Alternatively, use the A-Z function from the left hand menu – this will take you to a list of organisations, services and events beginning with the letter you choose. A list of categories starting with the letter will also be displayed, giving you the option to browse further using these.

If these searches bring up too many results, you can narrow your search by using an advanced search.

Advanced search – be more specific

If you’d like to enter more criteria into your search – use the advanced search function – here you can add in things like ages, event dates and postcodes.

Please note, you do not have to enter the whole postcode – for example, you could try the following:
BN1 for Central Brighton
BN2 for East Brighton
BN3 for Hove
BN41 for Portslade

Browse by zone

If you are unsure what you are looking for, you can browse the site.

1. Choose the zone that describes you the best
2. A list of categories will then display - choose a category you are interested in by clicking on it
3. A list of sub-categories will now display – again click on the one that interests you
4. This will take you to a list of the organisations, services and events for this sub-category – have a look at those that sound relevant to you

At any time, you can return to a previous page by using the back button or selecting the link from the breadcrumb trail at the top of the screen, for example >Children / Having fun / Clubs for kids.

Browsing the zones will lead you to a list of organisations relevant to the sub-category you have chosen – you will then be able to read a general description of the organisation and find out details of the services they offer.

On the left hand of each page you’ll see three A’s – by selecting these the font size can be made larger or smaller.
